This Supernatural Story
Soderbergh pushes his creative boundaries with this clever ghostly tale captured wholly from the perspective of a ghost. After a clan with Lucy Liu as Rebekah and her distressed teen Chloe settles into their recent residence, the filming device – AKA the Presence – shadows their actions. The teen shows signs of aware of the supernatural presence, and it seems defensive toward her. But why? This is an entertaining concept that remains concise, featuring a surprise that may be unexpected. This Saturday, multiple showings, the Sky channel
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

The Black Phone Horror
Derrickson's contained scarefest holds up well even without a sequel. Located in the late 70s in Denver, several child abductions has made the youth frightened. Once Finney is taken by “the Grabber” and held captive in a basement, he anticipates a fatal end. Yet the non-functional line in the room repeatedly calls, with ghostly voices giving advice, and the prophetic visions of Gwen, his sister might rescue him. A solid creepfest. Saturday 11 October, 10.50pm, Film4
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the conflict between faith and wealth, the victory is clear for greed in Showalter's wonderfully garish true story about the fallen TV preacher and her felon spouse. Garfield plays the greedy Jim, who declares at the beginning, asserting religious justification for riches. He and Tammy Faye commence monetising the people's Christian beliefs. It's a riot of tacky decor, bad makeup and hypocrisy, though Jessica Chastain achieves to present Tammy Faye in a likable light. Tuesday 14 October, early morning, on Film4
